GunDeck Exhibit Concept Design

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic (MMA) have an existing outdoor GunDeck exhibit that they want to making more visually appealing. I was hired to explore ways to change the exterior of the exhibit making suggestions about how the structure itself could be made more cohesive looking and fun. Even in its present form it serves as a popular background for visitors taking selfies and group photos.

Part of the ask was to find a set of pirate illustrations that had a style that would appeal to a wide range ages. I custom tweaked some of the illustrations in keeping with the clients goal of them being more culturally diverse. The colours of others where tweaked so they will visually stand out better against the brick background.

I found a home for our old friend the Kraken illustration from the family friendly March Break SeaMonsters exhibit I designed for the MMA in 2008 which the client was pleased to see. I also found a home for a parrot in honour in honour of Merlin who is MMA‘s well loved talkative ambassador exhibit feature possibly being a spinning weathervane.
