A little exhibit telling the tragic story of the SS Atlantic and the heroic response of the Terence Bay community that I designed for Pier 21. This exhibit was a joint project with the SS Atlantic Heritage Park Society who donated a number of artifacts that the Pier 21 staff have expertly mounted and displayed in a case next to pop-up exhibit. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to incorporate the very impactful and detailed illustration of the event that was created by the celebrated American painter, Winslow Homer, for Harper’s Weekly. It was not uncommon In the days before photographs could be reproduced for newspapers to employ artists to create images that captured major stories like this one.
